Swedish designer Alexander Lervik set up his own brand in 2013, with the aim to design products that reference Scandinavian design heritage.

Called Tingest, which is a Swedish word meaning gadget, the brand launched the Bikupa watch in 2016, as well as chairs with hole-punched seats and pendant lamps with cut-out patterns.

“For me, this is a long-standing vision: of creating and manufacturing exclusive home decor items hallmarked by design excellence, fine craftsmanship and local manufacture in Sweden,” said the designer.

Lervik has worked as a product designer for 18 years, first finding success with his 10 stools – 10 decades graduation exhibition in 1988. He is also known for designing furniture for brands such as Skandiform and Moroso, and for his experimentation with LED lighting.

Revealed during Stockholm Design Week 2016, the Bikupa timepiece features a face dotted with hexagonal perforations and took six years to develop.

"Watches have always interested me and it has been a dream to design one,” said Lervik. "It's jewellery, with a function. A watch carries identity and you can describe a bit of who you are with it."
