France-based watch brand Klokers launched its first timepiece via Kickstarter in September 2015. Founders Richard Piras and Nicolas Boutherin were influenced by celestial mechanics and the laws of physics while experimenting with a new way to tell the time.

The result is the KLOK-01, a watch inspired by the once-ubiquitous circular slide rule. Instead of rotating hands, three discs denoting hours, minutes and seconds rotate harmoniously to display time along a vertical line.

Each Klokers timepiece features a patented key that can be easily removed, allowing the watch to also function as a fob or sit on a desk as the user desires. A pushback at 8 o’clock unlocks the watch head from its base, allowing multiple watch head/strap combinations.

Klokers brings movement and rhythm back to the dial," says Boutherin on the concept. "We are looking to create a visual curiosity and change the way people habitually tell the time, destabilising them and forcing them to question themselves in order to understand how to read the time."
