The Mondaine watch collection is defined by the iconic design of the Swiss railway clock seen at over 3000 rail stations across Switzerland.
Designed by Zurich-born engineer Hans Hilfiker in 1944, the railway clock represents the legendary punctuality of the Swiss rail network. In 1953 Hilfiker added the familiar red second hand to the clock resembling the shape of a railways guard’s signalling disc.
In 1986 Swiss watch brand Mondaine adapted the clock to a watch under official license from the Federal Swiss Railway.
The clocks have become a Swiss design classic, included in 20th Century design collections at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Design Museum in London. In 2012 Apple acquired a license for the use of the trademarked station clock design for their iOS 6 operating system, seen on iPads and iPhones.
The Evo Quartz is as close to the original clock design as it could be, featuring an easy-to-read face, distinctive hands and the famous red ticker. The watch is available with a red strap and a small 26mm case, or a black strap and a 35mm case. The smaller watch with a red strap comes with a delicate 26mm face suited for a ladies wrist.
