Punctuality is built into Swiss DNA. The nation’s iconic Swiss Railways Clock has been keeping locomotives in check since 1944 when it was designed by Hans Hilfiker, a Zurich-born engineer and designer and an employee of the Federal Swiss Railways. A design classic, it is included in twentieth century design collections at the Museum of Modern Art in New York and the Design Museum in London.
Mondaine have been producing wristwatches inspired by the classic design since the mid-1980s when the brand was granted an official license. Today, the watches – which are assembled in a dedicated factory near Solothhurn – remain emblematic of Swiss craftsmanship. The design retains the simplicity of the original clocks; the easy-to-read face, and the distinctive red hand are immediately recognisable and have introduced Swiss precision to a new generation of time keepers.
